Types of Dental Veneers

Veneers are thin layers of tooth colored material that are used to cover badly stained teeth and to reshape the anatomy of teeth. It improves appearance with very little removal of tooth structure. There are three types of veneers: direct resin veneers, indirect resin veneers and porcelain veneers. Let’s discuss them individually,

Direct Resin Veneers: Direct resin veneers are made directly on the patient’s tooth in his/her first appointment. In this procedure, the cosmetic dentist will remove a little portion of your tooth, etch it and apply adhesives. In addition, opaquers and body shade are placed. These dental veneers in Miami are light cured and, require polishing and periodic maintenance.

Indirect Resin Veneers: For this procedure, you will require two appointments. At your first appointment, the tooth is prepared and impressions are taken. The impressions are sent to the laboratory for fabrication of the veneer. During the second appointment, these veneers are bonded in place. Similar to direct resin veneers, indirect resin also require periodic maintenance.

Porcelain Veneers: Porcelain veneers are the most preferred one nowadays. They are biocompatible, wear and solvent resistant, very color stable, and have a coefficient of thermal expansion similar to enamel. Similar to indirect resin veneers, porcelain veneers also require two appointments and are fabricated in the dental laboratory. Although these dental veneers in Miami are fragile before placement, they have superior reliable bonding strengths after hydrofluoric acid etching and silane coupling agent application, when compared with resin composite.

And compared to resin composite, porcelain veneers are also more wear resistant, less porous and less water-absorbent. They are used for patients who wish to have their previous dental aesthetic problems corrected in terms of tooth shade, morphology and alignment.
